Why the long face?

Murray, the six legged spider...

Yesterday on the highway, Lexie started screaming, tears streaming down her face, legs tucked up under her and finger pointing. She continued freaking out as she let me know that there was a spider crwaling up the back of my seat. The whole picture was quite innocent, cute, and humorous, so I had to hide my laughter from my panic stricken four year old. She was extremely upset. I tried to calm her down and tell her that I would get him out when we got to the grocery store, but this didn't seem to ease her angst. I told her that he was not going to harm her and asked her what she thought he would do. Her reply was that he would, "get me". Finally I could stand her torment any more as the spider kept falling back down towards her floorboard, and hence not being visible to her, even more of a threat. So...I pulled off at the next exit and pulled over to the left shoulder of the offramp. Kleenex in hand I opened the back door, spotted the spider, gently grasped him in said Kleenex to remove him from the vehicle. Not gently enough however, as I seemed to inadvertantly remove two of his front-right-side legs. I escorted him to his new domicile, the gravel shoulder of the Murray offramp. Plenty of weedy grass to the south, speeding traffic to the north of his new home. As Murray the six legged spider gallantly trudged off toward the road, I reassured Lex that he was relocated and got back in the car. My arachnophhilantopic hopes cause me to convince myself that Murray quickly changed his mind about the direction he was travelling when I last saw him and headed south for the weeds. By the way...hadn't we just watched Spider Man last night as we went to bed?

We have our Kidarooz now. Lex and I took it out for a spin Tuesday evening. She didn't even want to come back when we did. We took Griffen out for the first part of the walk, but he's not quited used to walking so closed to a...what do you call it...stroller just doesn't seem to fit. Since he's not terribly found of any thing with wheels, the only saving grace was that he knew Lexie was inside. We took him back home after a short jaunt and his terrifying outburst at a couple skateboarders. Then we continued on for a longer walk. That thing is awesome! I have been doing overtime for the whole first three months of the year and been hoping to save up for a laptop, but that will have to wait a bit longer now. Looks like the overtime will be drying up for a while.

Today I'm grateful for Lex, weekends, life, my backyard, Kidarooz, my Pathfinder, sugar free creamer, our new computer camera, and happiness.

List of things Lexie and I have done since December 28th 2006 (most of them are firsts):

Three movies at the theaters: Happily Never After, Happy Feet, and Night at the Museum. Night at the museum was by far her favorite.

Three trips to the Portland's Children Museum. Her favorite area is the water exhibit

Three trips to the zoo. One for Zoo lights. She loves the 3-D roller coaster and the penguins.

Bowling at Hollywood bowl for charity event. She bowled a 51.

Easter Egg hunt at Alpenrose

Two trips to Oaks Amusement Park. She loves the rides! Yesterday we rode the smaller roller coaster three times, the Spider twice, the Scrambler, the Zipper, the Roundup, the Ferris wheel, the super slide, the Frog Jumper twice, and the hot air ballon spinners. Oh and we did the water in the clown's mouth game and she did the, "how strong are you?" mallet and bell game a couple times. Wow did we have a blast. One of my all time favorite memories will always be suspended at the top on the spider ride, looking at the blue sky and clouds throught the newly blooming Oak tree leaves. Taking it all in and chatting and laughing with Lexie Bug.

Last week, Lexie got a Student of the week award from her preschool. She is making some wonderful progress!
