Tomorrow is Lexie’s birthday.  We’re not going to have a party with guests etc. until the weekend after next.  Frank and I will probably get a small gift and wrap it, a small cake with three candles and do a little celebration.  –  Work has been super busy.  I did technical lead stuff plus report writer stuff, and fee schedule projects, training Cherri, I posted a $9,500 batch, and yesterday Seth was out.  The dot matrix printers upstairs had software issues when printing grouped reports, so I had a call into Cerner about that.  Then I added a new printer to Adam’s box, then the two boxes down in radiology lost connection to PRISM but could ping each other.  The wiring here is a conundrum of antiquated and newer mishmash of crudola.  Following Seth’s email instructions I followed the labyrinth of cables and tweaked and tugged at connections.  Still nothing. Then when the administrator came in, he did the same thing and it worked.  Wahh.  – My cold is starting to wind down.  – I’m already sick of Christmas music.  – I better get back to work.

Word(s) of the day:  MONSTROSITY

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, advil cold and sinus, Tylenol cold medicine, soda pop, Mom and Dad, my kitties and Thumper, weekends, Outlook calendar and reminders, phones, and sleep.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Or, maybe not... We had a great trip. It was cold sometimes, wet others, but the laughs of Lexie, and the runs of Thumper and the company made it warm and decent. -- Frank wants first and foremost for me to point out how kind and considerate it was of Michelle and Mike to think of us all, especially Lexie and Thumper. They had a birthday gift for Lexie all wrapped and with a card. They had bunches of stuff for Thumper; a few chews, a bone or two, a toy or two, and support and help. -- When we showed up Wednesday night (after a scramble of getting the camper last minutes together) they had hot dogs and chili for us and a treat for Thump. -- Frank worked his butt off all day Wednesday getting the camper together. After helping him unload yesterday, I can see how much work he put into it. -- We had a very decent Wednesday night, after I freaked out about leaving after dark, going to Les Schwab and getting the tires filled and not showing up until around 6:30pm. After all was semi-settled, we sat around the fire, cold air, but warmness all around. -- Thursday (Thanksgiving morning) Frank got up and re-kindled the fire Mike had started the night before, with some lint and paper. As he watched the fire, Lexie, Thump and I went for a two mile walk around the campgrounds. G loop was closed, but we walked on and explored the closed boat ramp. We walked down far, far below the emptied out lake and tree trunks. Lexie found a rock with orange paint on it on the way back. She tried to throw it into a deepish ravine (cuz she loves to throw rocks into water) and when it landed near the edge, she cried and had me retrive it. It is a prized possesion. She was so proud to show it to Daddy. Michelle and Mike were out and about when we got back. Michelle spent mucho time preparing the awesmoest turkey Thanksgiving meal. They cooked a turkey in their gas grill, and she spent hours in their trailer making stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc. including cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, corn, gravy....Damn! I mean it was everything a Thanksgiving dinner should and could be. -- Lexie almost wore herself to sleep at many times. Thumper had a few good playful runs. We sat and chatted by the fire Wednesday and Thursday night. The rain didn't start until late Thursday, but by Friday morning, as Frank so aptly put it, we would need intertubes to sit (float) by the fire pit. The camp host let Michelle and Mike know that the snow level was going to be dangerously close, so we packed camp and headed for the KOA in Albany. All this took much more work than the few sentences I take to tell it. By two or three in the afternoon Friday, we were at KOA. It was less wet, but still cold and we were all tired. No fire that night. We walked and chatted and Lexie got muddy. -- Call from Mom and Dad to let us know they were fixing the hall floor and that I had accidentally shut Chikita into the hall closet for close to 48 hours... Massive guilt, but she was fine. Michelle and Mike brought over Lexie's birthday present and we watched (and taped) her opening it in the RV. She loves it. Saturday morning, I started to feel the cold that Lexie got Wednesday. I was utterly an oger to her when we went to shower. We woke up happy and all, but she had a change of heart (attitude) and didn't want to shower. Hurt my feelings so after an attempt to get her to see how nice it would be, she ended up crying on the shower floor. I stomped off ahead of her to the RV and as soon as I got done with my shower, as fate or Karma, or whatever, would have it, my cold started. To this minute, I'm stuffed in the head and dripping. I'm not talking about turkey stuffing or dripping gravy. Saturday, we had coffee, a walk and packed and came home. We spent the rest of the day unloading, Frank doing most of the running around, me just stacking and organizing. It was a great experience, but not nearly as relaxing as one (me) might have hoped for. Michelle was not feeling so well sometimes also. I can't wait for some summer camping trips. -- Now, after a day of a sick family trying to relax, I can hear dishes clashing in the kitchen, Lexie screaching from Thumper's reaction to her taunting, and I need to go end the vacation/weekend. I may not blog so much this week. Busy crud and much overtime, so I made a special attempt to blog out this vacation. It was much more interesting, and all toghther worth while than this short amount of time allows me to impart. If I don't get much a chance to blog this week (Lexie's birthday is on the first), its because the second half of the year has been so much more intense. Love my life, but not this cold.

Word of the week: CURD

I'm grateful for too many things to type right now. Signing off for a rest.

Wednesday, November 23, 2005
Short blog again today.  I’m really falling into the groove of this job.  Once the first solo month end is accomplished, I think I’ll get some relief.  I won’t be blogging again until next Monday since we’re off to Detroit Lake this afternoon.  I’m so excited.  I really need a vacation and some relaxation.  It will be worth it and I can some quality relaxing time with Frank and Lexie…and Thumper.  And icing on the cake; camping with good people, good friends Michelle and Mike…and Isabella.  I can’t stress enough how kind this couple is.  They have planned, purchased and prepared all our evening meals, including Thanksgiving.  Frank and I (and Mom) shopped for snacks, breakfast and lunches.  We’re also bringing a bean dip and chips, macaroni salad, and if Frank has time today, he was going to whip up some of his awesome potato casserole.  We stayed up pretty late last night packing the camper.  Came to find out that Thumper decided to break his impeccable potty training record and peed on his (used to be Lexie’s) bean bag.  So this morning at 6:00am I was emptying out enough of the beans to fit it into the wash and see how it goes through.  I just got off the phone with Frank, and I really don’t see how we are going to be ready to leave when I get home.  He said he hopes he isn’t rushing around all day.  That means there will most likely be plenty left to do and I should just count on an after dark arrival and hook up.  Ok, well then, there it is…Now that I’ve decided that’s what’s going to be, I’m fine with it, and anything earlier will be gravy.  --  Thursday is not only Thanksgiving, it is Betty’s birthday.  We’ll be missing it, but she’s happy to have us having a good time.  We’ll call from Detroit to wish her a happy birthday and her daughter lives two doors down.  I hope she has a decent birthday.

Word(s) of the day:  CRISP

Lexie log:  It is such a joy to see her as a baby in our home movies.  We are just transferring them to DVD, and we did one last night while she was napping and we were packing.  It was hard not to just sit there and watch it.  When they are all transferred, we’ll have to watch them again.  I hope she really enjoys this camping trip.

My break time has run out and I have to go to a meeting, so until next week…HAPPY THANKSGIVING (and happy birthday to Gramma Betty).

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, water, energy, wind, sunny weather, dexterity, highlighters, taste buds, senses, my kitties and Thumper, Tracy for coming over to check on them while we are gone, so many blessings and things to be thankful for this holiday, and life.

I don’t go to lunch!  I eat while I work.  If I had a cloaking device, people wouldn’t ask me questions at lunch.  If I had money or time, I’d leave the building, but wait; I can’t get away from my desk.  So…I’m weary of worrying about the cats, dog, VCR clocks, and Lexie while I’m at work too.  I need a vacation.  If anyone around me, especially Frank, doesn’t have a bubbly, perky attitude, I tend to clench my teeth and hold my breath.  I wish.  Bad timing for my blog, but I’m damn near in tears right now because I’m busy and I can’t cope with other people’s downhearted, low spirits.

Word(s) of the day:  NONSENSE

Lexie log:  She ran herself and all of us ragged yesterday.  She played in the Freddy’s play area as we went through the check out line.  We ran obstacle course down the aisles to get her out of the store.  She never took a nap.  I love her.  She loved to watch the recording of her swim lesson from Sunday.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, vacations, sleep, rest, and happiness.

Monday, November 21, 2005
Well another weekend flies by, almost literally.  Friday evening was a bust.  I was so freakin’ angry about Kathie’s party that it took me an hour to get over myself.  It can be a little difficult to get the whole family out to an ‘event’, especially when there is a semi-large group of people involved and it’s on such short notice.  I got home, got Lexie all excited about going out to have social fun, Frank got all ready, and…Whamo.  I called Jan to see if she had any hints on landmarks or routes to get to this place easier, and the first thing I hear her say is, “Sorry”.  When I ask about what, she tells me kids aren’t included.  It says ‘Rachel and family’ on the invitation.  I was told it was a family environment.  I was pissed.  I didn’t even say goodbye.  I felt shunned (thanks’ for the word Carrie).  I called Carrie and she was the one who discovered this first.  I can understand if you want to have an ‘adult only’ party, but get it together people.  Hey, I guess I’m almost over that.  – Took Thump in for his vaccines, the vet put the fear of Parvo into me, and we forewent the trip to Dittler’s for a run. The rest of the weekend went well, but too fast.  It was great to see Tash and her family.  The Gorge was impressively windy.  Tash and her family are staying in a cabin out at Cascade Locks, Tracy, Dana, Sierra and Lucas had been out there since last Thursday, but drove back home last night around the time we left.  It was incredibly windy there.  Icy wind.  Thumper loved it.  He and Rosie played a bit, I felt like Thump was getting too aggressive, but I’ve never had a dog before, so what do I know.  Tasha’s Ben looks so much like her.  Olivia looks like Christy, and Hailey is just too adorable.  I don’t remember Lexie at 16 months anymore.  I’ll have to think on that a while.  – Got to go, Monday’s are always the busiest nowadays.

Word(s) of the day:  BRIDGE

Lexie log:  She didn’t stay very long at Saturday Night Splash, but I think it was we went when she was hungry.  We played at floating on her back and she did really well in class the next day.  – I left the video camera in the trunk when we thought we were going to Dittler’s with Thump, and when I went to rewind a tape, it gave and error message, “DEW DETECTED….EJECT TAPE”.  I freaked out for a while, hair dryer, battery off.  Eventually on the way to swim, Daddy put the battery back on and re-checked and it resolved itself.  I taped the whole swim lesson.  Added bonus; Teacher AJ was interning a new swim instructor so throughout the whole class, and hopefully on tape, AJ was explaining to him what he was doing and why.  I hope we can watch it this evening with Grammy.  – Grammy and Grandpa brought the RV down yesterday while we were out at Cascade Locks.  I’m starting to get pretty excited about the trip.  I hope we can get the whole thing packed up before Wednesday.  – Lexie really enjoyed playing with Livy (Not sure I’m spelling that right).  They played in the room with the playpen and Livy kept pretending that she was a baby and Lexie was her Mommy.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, meeting up with Tash and Tracy, Mom and Dad and all there help with our camping trip, and one thing at a time.

Dirty but happy, digging and scratching, Losing your shoe and a button or two. He's poor but hones, sad but true...

Friday, November 18, 2005
Well, I’m taking an early break today.  I got a call from Barb last night around 5:00pm letting me know that Prism went down and quite possibly won’t be up all day today.  It appears to be a rather critical hardware issue.  So today will be mostly spent cleaning up online access for insurance companies, and I have a billing software presentation to sit in on for a couple hours.  I usually enjoy looking at new billing software. – On the way to work I heard there was a nasty accident on highway 47 by Fern Hill road, it made me nervous for a moment or two, ‘cuz that’s Mom’s route.  I called Dad, to make sure he had her call me when she talked to him.  I know that she must have already been at work way before it happened, but a daughter worries about these things.  I just got a message from Dad that she called and is fine, and that she loves me.  That’s sweet. – Debbie just came over to me saying that she is so pleased and hadn’t I noticed that the atmosphere here has already improved 100%.  This is the same sentiment that I’ve heard from every single person in this department.  I really hope that GR finds some peace and more happiness; she was quite negative and dramatic here.  Even a couple of the people that she truly thought were her friends admitted to me that they do it to stay on her nice side.  That is really sad.  I liked many things about her, including her caring and sense of humor, but it was getting harder and harder to work with the negativity and constant drama.  VS was on vacation during her last week and came in the next Monday doing an Irish jig and singing a song from The Wizard of Oz, “Ding dong…”  Last week was one of the toughest I’ve had here.  It was awkward, filled with tension and negativity, and there was just nothing I could do or say to end it.  This week, although busy, is such a relief.  The days are flying by.  I’m doing the work TT did, the Tech Lead job and my Report Writer work, on top of my old job auditor work. Everyone is being really helpful with helping me post my batches, especially Lana.  Debbie is doing all my share of the mail.  Carrie is learning coding at the same time she is training Linda to handle Medicare.  The last week of the month, the 28th, Cherri will be coming up to start as auditor.  I’m curious to see how it’s going to work with month end, and training her.  It’s not a slow time of year.

I’m so mad at Children of the Sea right now.  Not the classes or the instructors, but the front desk.  Mom has called in TWICE specifically requesting a card on file and I just called to see if we could use if for Saturday night Splash, and once again, it’s gone.  She (whoever answered the phone) put me on hold only to come back and tell me that they don’t like to keep card numbers on file because of identity theft.  That’s understandable, but why does someone there keep telling us that they can put it on file, and then they don’t!?  I’ve just spent the last three and a half hours in a patient management software presentation, my brain is fried, and this just set me off.  I was really excited about never having to worry about having the extra cash for Saturday swim, something we enjoy so much, that we are making it part of our routine.  It’s a highlight of our week.  The front desk incompetence just grates my nerves at this moment. Zenifying…

Word(s) of the day:  ERSATZ

Lexie log:  Last Saturday morning Lexie woke up next to me after I had been lying in bed for a while.  She looked at me, smiled and said, “Hi Momma.  I love you” in a sweet, just woke up voice.  Then, she went on and on about the dream she just woke up from.  Her vocabulary, however expansive it is getting, is still somewhat lacking, so there were quite a few make-believe words thrown in.  The gist of it was about a bunch of monkeys up in the tops of trees.  To me, this is a little slice of heaven.  To lay back snuggly warm while my sweet Lexie babbles on and on, her voice filled with fascination, relaying to me her story.  I wish I could start every day that way.  – I spent some time last night and got two tapes recorded to VHS.  What a relief.  It really took a load off my mind.  I’ll keep filling up the VHS tapes until we can get some DVD –R and then copy from VHS to DVD.  – We’re preparing for camping. Whew.  I’m excited about a four-night trip with Lexie, Frank, Thumper, Michelle, Mike, and Isabella.  Lexie has always enjoyed camping.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, camping, Fridays, swimming, and weekends.

Busy, busy, busy… Daily routine at work is falling into place (until month end, that is), but after work is busier than ever.  Kathie’s going away party scheduled for Tomorrow night, just got the invitations this morning, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to talk Frank into going on such short notice.  Saturday we take Thumper in for his boosters, and to sign him up for Companion Pet Clinic’s Puppy Wellness program (includes a micro chip locater deally thingermabob). Then swim Saturday night, Swim Sunday morning, and then a drive out to Cascade Locks to visit with Tash and family and Tracy and family.

Crappanannies!  They’re working on a faulty outlet at Lana’s station, which is attached to my cube.  I was racing up to the save button as I hear Phil say he was headed back to the breaker box, but I was to late.  Auto recovery only saved the first little part of my blog.

The office smells like a big cucumber today.  It’s Kathie’s going away party, and there are lots of vegetable trays.  Someone cut up a fresh cuke and it smells awesome in here.

Word(s) of the day: SHIZAGRUNNYGAGA!

Word of the day dedicated to Kathie.  Her own expletive and she says it so well.  Crappanannies is hers too.

Lexie log: I’ve been struggling to get all of our home videos transferred to DVD for the past couple days.  My first attempt (without reading the manual) was a flop.  I poured over the manual Tuesday night and went to try again last night.  I couldn’t find the manual anywhere.  I was almost in tears.  So, after clashing and fighting with the most un-user-friendly remote on earth, I labored until I had an entire DVD (about three tapes worth of titles) recorded.  Then I went to finalize the disc so it would play in other players, and no option anywhere.  Wits end.  I finally find the manual dropped behind a chair (Lexie…) and come to find that you can’t even finalize the DVD RAMs at all.  Three hours of work into this and nothing to show for it.  The only real downside to this is that I really want to free up a few tapes for this weekend.  I may end up recording the DVD RAM onto a VHS and then re-recording the VHS to DVD –R at a later date.  Who knows.  All I know is that there are 13 tapes worth of memories that I want stored for easy access, copies for Grammy and Grandpa, and for safe backups.  Last night as we were watching/recording, Lexie saw Grandpa on the screen and yelled out, “GrammaDad!”  This is what she calls him 90% of the time because it is so much easier for her than ‘Grandpa’.  I’m actually going to really enjoy recording these DVD, once I’m sure its working correctly and have the time to do it.  I can’t wait until we not cramming in all 13 and can do one at a time as we record them.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, snow peas and dip, coffee, relaxation, and happiness.

I love a rainy night, I love to hear the thunder, Watch the lightining, When it lights up the sky, You know it makes me feel good.

Wednesday, November 16, 2005
Ok, so the first try at recording the digital video to DVD was not a complete success, but I’m positive that I know why.  Back up a bit…For my birthday, Mom and Dad got us a DVD recorder.  I used the one sample DVD Ram (Panasonics ‘special’ and more expensive disc that is not very compatible with other models) and recorded the most recent tape, the trip to Alaska and Gavin’s birthday.  Time is very precious to me, so I let it record while we went shopping and ran errands.  I didn’t finalize the disc, gave it to Dad, and of course, he can’t watch it.  So, now I’m thinking that we need a plan to allot two-three hour time slots where we can sit and watch as it records, possibly even at some point learning to edit and add titles.  The only obstacle here is that we have 13 tapes filled already.  Hopefully we can record at least three before Thanksgiving at Detroit.  Another big, big essential is that I be able to make backup copies, and even gift copies, like for Mom and Dad or like if we record something with Tracy or Michelle’s family.  (By the way, Thanks again Michelle for the CD of bowling pictures you sent.)  That is my big project, along with spending more time with Lexie, working out at the gym, training and bonding with Thumper, getting the house purged of unused stuff and cleaned, etc. etc.

Word(s) of the day:  ARTICULATIO COXÆ

Lexie log:  Daddy was talking to me last night about how sweet and wonderful she is.  He said he just loves it during the day when she will sit with him and just have this elaborately detailed conversation with him, using hand gestures and fully exploring word emphasis and using every word she knows.  He mentioned that every once in a while it breaks his heart to imagine that she could be so sweet and some other child would crush her feelings.  This is odd to me that it is such a strong worry between the two of us.  Are we are over protective of her sweet innocence?  I’m guessing that as long as we instill a strong sense of self-esteem, self-worth, and self-respect that we shouldn’t have to agonize over this. – On another note… She is still having a blast with Thump; however, there are the beginnings of a small power struggle.  She wants a little more control of him than he’ll give her.  She wants to be able to put him away like a toy sometimes.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, coffee, band-aids, Mom and Dad, moments, and life.

Let's ride with the family down the street, Through the courtesy of Fred's two feet.

Tuesday, November 15, 2005
At least a little blog today.  Monday was too busy for anything.  I worked through lunch and stayed a little late.  It’s going to be a lot of prioritizing, re-organizing, and streamlining for the rest of the year. Already, yesterday, Admin Jeff asked me for data that Gina used to give him that I couldn’t find any spreadsheet, folder, or report for.  I know how she worked the credits on unapplied cash, she showed me that, but I had to start a new system for all adjustments to be tracked on a single workbook/spreadsheet.  More efficient for me.  That way I can track/audit any adjustments.  I have a lot to do to get caught up though, and I still have my insurance accounts to audit.  Monday’s are particularly busy since that is the day I have most of my reports.

Word(s) of the day:  BOMBARD

Lexie log:  She did so well at swimming this weekend.  We went Saturday and played and practiced for an hour.  She’s much more comfortable with her head under water, and will look at me and even swam half way across the pool to me.  Teacher AJ definitely noticed an improvement Sunday.  She was so excited about the under water part, that she lost a little focus and had a hard time remembering to wait for ‘Ready-Go’ to swim out to him.  – Saturday we took Thump to Dittler’s and it was a joy to watch him race up and down the water line in the sand.  Lexie had a blast too.  After swim we took him to Summer Lake Park and started leash training Thump.  It was a great walk around the park, with a little lake.  Right at the beginning, a dog from inside the fenced dog park (leash free place for them to run and socialize) a large dog started barking at Thump and I didn’t have a good grip on his leash.  He took off about 30 feet then stopped.  I was stunned, and actually it made both Daddy and I a little sad that he came to a complete stranger rather than us.  Oh well, we haven’t even had him a week until today at 4:00pm. And he is starting to bond with each of us.  Lexie loved the park.  There were three or four nutrias that were very tame and let her get very close to them, she was fascinated by this new species.  After the park, we went with Grammy and Grandpa to Juan Colorado’s for a belated birthday dinner.  Lexie sat between Grammy and Grandpa in a booster seat and was a little joy.  She was the most well behaved I can remember seeing her at any restaurant to date.  After they went home, she actually asked where Grandpa was.  – Monday and Tuesday she woke up with me and cried when I left.  This is so tough for me.  On the way to work I contemplate why I couldn’t actually stay with her when I know all too well that in a few short years she’ll not be quite as interested.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, weekends, Tuesdays, space heaters, coffee, beanbags, flamenco music, and air.

Brief Saturday blog. I forgot to mention that yesterday was Vetran's Day. For the past three years, I've had the perk at work of sitting at a second story window that looks down 42nd to Broadway. Every year they have a little Vetran's Day parade on Broadway that I watch from the window. I always know when it's about to start when the jet does a screamingly low fly by that shakes the window. This year I actually saw the jet.

I just finished cleaning up 17 Thumper land mines in the back yard. Time to get one of those high tech scooping devices. That made my back sore.

Word(s) of the day: FLOWER

Lexie log: Last night Thumper and Lexie played in the tub. Thumper never got in, he did have a lap or two, but he was content to watch her splash and play. Oh, his eleven week old birthday was yesterday, and as of today, his left ear is standing at attention instead of floppy. So, he will have German Shepherd ears. Lexie and Thumper, Daddy and I are going off to Dittler's for a 'run', then to Gramma Betty's, then swimming. We got a seven dollar refund from an overpayment on Lexie's Blue Cross insurance, and that happens to be exactly how much it costs for the three of us to go swimming.

Today I'm grateful for Frank and Lexie, pets, weekends, Love Spell, Franks breakfast burrito, Friend's Central Perk's style coffee cup (since my oversized drug rep cup cracked when I put hot water in it last weekend), and life.

So far so good.  My day is going very well. The only thing I still seem to be having trouble grasping is patient statements; reading the current spreadsheet is complicated and I’m not familiar with the scheduling process and the cycles.  Eventually.  The manager and I just completed an interview with our second new auditor, Cherri.  So Linda starts Monday, and Cherri in two weeks.

Word(s) of the day: RELEASE

Lexie log:  She tried to re-organize the dog shampoo section at Petco.  She loves to re-align objects.  She was also very tired and lay down on the floor.  – We are going to try to go swimming Saturday.  We will definitely be taking Thumper to Gramma Betty’s.  Sunday morning I have to call the swim center to enroll her in next session.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Fridays, weekends, and carbonation.
