Dry, windy, below freezing winter weather is an excellent combination for knee pain.  My joints are achy this morning.  – Sweet Thumper follows me around the house in the mornings, waiting for when I sit on the couch to put my shoes on.  Then he puts his head in my lap and I give him morning affection.  Tiki sleeps on a pillow at the top of the bed and I cuddle him every morning before I get up.  Miadda always ends up waking me up some way or another on her way from the floor to a pillow above Frank’s head, and I give her scratches and love. Chikita is another who follows me around in the morning for affection, and usually I wake up to find she has slept on my back.  Turkey Swoop sleeps either on the hope chest or the heated cat pad in the living room.  I find some way to give him scratches and love on the way out the door.  Chikita and Thump got into it bad last night.  Chikita got him good (bad) on the ear and he cried out and blood dripped on the floor.  Of course, I was blow drying Lexie’s hair after her evening bath when Frank appealed to me to assist in refereeing the event.  Medical attention to the ear and scolding to both parties and all was well.

Word(s) of the day:  AILUROPHILE

Lexie log:  Slow progress, but she is getting better.  She’s sleeping better through the night, although I did wake up at three AM to her and Daddy in her room and her protesting about taking another dose of medicine and drinking more water.  – Her birthday has lasted a long time this year.  It started  on the official day, the first, then kept dragging along until at least Wednesday.  Presents and events have been trickling on the whole time up until the last gift from Jan Wednesday.  Well, last night she asked if she could have a birthday present.  Isn’t that sweet?

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, weekends, root beer, chairs, comfortable shoes, nice people, transportation, shelter, food, luxury basically, and life.

Ok, ooooh sooooo much better today.  Yesterday was a write off as far as productivity here at work.  I was teary eyed the moment I got in.  Lexie had been up coughing and crying most of the night and wouldn’t take any medicine.  She just spit it out.  As soon as I sat down at my desk I was unsettled.  Then Jan came in and saw me crying and told me to get the heck out of here and take care of Lexie.  MaryLu gave me a project and that sent me over the edge.  ….And this little Piggy cried, “Wah wah wah!” all the way home.  I slept till 2:00pm. Today is going so much better.  – Our thoughts and prayers are with the administrator and his family for the loss of his father.  – This is the week of conference calls.

Word(s) of the day:  WORD WRAP RAPPING

Lexie log:  As I started to blog yesterday, she was miserable Tuesday night and refused to take any medicine.  I stayed up and down with her I went home, Lexie ran up to me asking me to hold her off and on as she had coughing fits.  Then after I came home from work Wednesday morning, I rocked her to sleep and then we all slept until 9:30.  Lexie got up and Daddy finally got her to take some Robitussin.  He had to just keep coming back with more every time she would spit it back out.  Finally, she swallowed it, and we all gave her such a “Atta Girl!” that coupled with the fact that we pointed out when she started feeling better, and the next time she took it down the first time and was proud of it!  She was such a trooper, she opened her last birthday present, from Jan, and played bead dress up.  – Just got a phone message from Daddy and Lexie is agreeing to take cold medicine, what a trooper.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, Secret Santa, cough suppressant, rest, weekends, and life.

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away...

What’s the deal with the gas bill more than tripling?!?  That’s a special Christmas gift, now isn’t it!  We did get a Secret Santa card in the mail with a Fred Meyer’s gift card in it.  I haven’t been able to stop struggling with how to spend it.

Word(s) of the day: SOMNOLENT

Lexie log: Poor little angel is sick again.  We half expected her to get something from the germ breeding fest at Chuck E Cheese.  She looked a little flushed and drained yesterday, sneezed every so often and even coughed once in a while.  I’m going home to take care of her.

Tuesday, December 13, 2005
Nice and warm at work today.  Should be a fairly calm and quiet day.  Doing a reversal batch to clean up the left over flu shot doctor production mix up, updating our “PRISM wish list spreadsheet for Jeff and then Cerner, Oh, and darn it all, I just rememberbered we have a PRISMView web seminar at 9:00.  Ooops, gotta go…

Ok, six hours and two conference calls later…  I have been chastised for cat neglect because I have not blogged about my babies lately.  They get just as much attention as before, maybe more.  Turkey and Chikita, Miadda and Tiki.  They’re all doing super and everyone is getting along as well as can be expected.

Word(s) of the day:  STUPEFY

http://www.tappedintoelephants.com/asp/index.php

Lexie log:  Thumper jumped in the tub with Lexie last night.  Of course, the water had just finished draining, but all the same, it proves two things.  They are going to be best friends and he will be a water dog, just like she is a water girl.  – We went to zoo lights last night.  We spent about three hours wandering around and riding the train.  It was really gorgeous and Lexie absolutely loved it.  The elephants were out and making quite a raucous.  They actually sounded like in the movies.  – Grammy had a ‘meltdown’ and bought her a few more winter outfits.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, all my kitties and Thumper, zoo membership, zoo lights, weekends, and life.

It's the most wonderful time...Of the year...

Monday, December 12, 2005
Three day review:  Friday, panic attack.  Have only had three in my life, including this one, and the first one sent me to the hospital ER.  This one went a lot smoother since I figured out early on that that was what it was.  Half a Xanax later, I was functioning at semi-normal.  Saturday, slept in until 10:00am, took Thumper for his booster shots, and then got Thumper and Lexie’s picture taken with Santa at PetSmart.  Swimming at 6:00pm was awesome as usual.  Sunday, up at 8:00am, swim lesson at 11:30am, Chuck E Cheese at 3:00pm.  From here on out, we only go to Chuck E. Cheese for dinner and play…No more parties.  I didn’t feel like I could even pay attention to Lexie and have fun with her.  People constantly asking questions, I made the mistake of thinking I could video tape it, and it was noisy and claustrophobic.  Massive chaos.  Thank God Lexie had a blast.

Today when I got to work it was barely 55 degrees.  Another weekend when the boiler failed to startup.  It’s nice and warm in here now though.

Word(s) of the day:  SPECTACLED

Lexie log:  She did super in her swim class.  Grammy and Grandpa sat in and watched too.  She practiced the U-turn off the wall Saturday night, but when the intern instructor had her do it, she instinctively started to swim out where teacher AJ was.  She is a little infatuated with him and this other guy is so darned quiet, she doesn’t pay much attention to him.  They also spent time learning to swim with life jackets and safety.  She slept for about five minutes on the way home, and then after she saw a birthday present, she wouldn’t cooperate with anyone.  She was too excited.  Even though she hadn’t eaten, she refused to eat the breakfast Daddy made her.  She refused to take a bath and was sent to her room where she immediately fell asleep.  Then she woke up within ten minutes and was a little more agreeable.  I don’t even know where to begin with how much fun she had at the party.  It’s a shame she wasn’t fully rested, but she still had a blast.  She ate a slice of pizza, blew out her candles, had a slice of cake, opened presents, and then the fun really began.  She rode the mini-carousel and a few others, then found the human habitrail with the super covered spiral slide, and that was that!  She went around and around and around.  She had the time of her life.  We’ll go back just for that.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Lexie’s happiness, Mom and Dad, weekends, zoolights, and life.

Whew! Monthend close is pretty much wrapped up.  Looks like it went without a hitch.  I’m still running a few reports and tidying up some loose ends (such as a mysterious 66.00 adjustment attached to a doctor that hasn’t been here in years, and a few charges posted to a bogus ‘flu clinic’ code that should go towards doctor production), but other than that, I should be able to post the first December charges and payments this afternoon and patient statements tonight.  I sure did go a lot smoother than I had hoped for, and the only down side is that I am very weary of running, editing, formatting, and transferring what seems like over 50 different reports.  – It was so icy windy when I left work yesterday that the only thing I could think of on the way to the car is a prayer for shelter for homeless.

Word(s) of the day:  SUCCOR

Lexie log:  I still think some of the most precious moments are when we are listenting to the radio (mostly in the car) and even though it’s a song she’s never heard before, she’s right there trying to sing along.  Its flippin’ adorable.  Or, last night, we drove to Albertson’s and as Daddy and I are yakin’ away up front, she just start singing her own song.  It sounded like it had a little Ol’ McDonald Eee I Eee I thrown in, but essentially, it was a Lexie original.  At some point Daddy and I notice what she’s doing so we stop our conversation to eavesdrop.  Her singing is the quintessence of ancient story telling via song.  She has a few chorus bars of Eee I Eee I, with stories about Daddy going and animals flying, and falling, and running, and and and….  It’s so darned cute.  – We’re going to try to make it to zoo lights sometime in the next week, and then to Portland International Raceway for the light show there.  Lexie has been so into the Christmas lights when we are out driving about.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, Gramma Betty throw blankets, jackets, Mug root beer, weekends, seasons, shelter, and how blessed my family is.

We will, We will, Rock you!

Massive report overload…First of the month reports, combined with weekly reports, combined with Monthend reports, combined with special request reports.  I am report weary at the moment.  We just had a brownout, which thankfully didn’t interrupt Monthend, but for some dumb_arse reason shutdown my computer.  Everyone else’s just hiccupped, but mine, the one with the battery backup hooked to it, completed shut down. And I was running a report in the foreground on it at the time.  – Update on the $2,143 we apparently owe DHS for mistakes made by both them and us…I just got a letter denying that we pay 10-15.00 a month.  The letter states that since the amount is so high, that we have a minimum payment of $100.00 a month!  So…Just as soon as we no longer have to pay $100.00 on the ER bill, we get this one.  And we’ll be paying it off for almost two years!  What a total and complete bummerfication.  – Our subwoofer on our TV stereo is blown.  It looks like it would cost about $150.00 to replace.  Frank is totally bummed about this.  I’m hoping I can replace it for him as a Christmas/Birthday present.  As long as we can afford it.  It’s all he talked about last night.  He’s on the phone with the owner of Martindale’s home theater repair shop, pulling subwoofers out of other old unused speakers to compare.  Totally bummed.  It sure does make a difference when you’re listening to the radio or watching a movie though.  Frank and Lexie have dance sessions everyday, and she loves the base beat.

Word(s) of the day: ASININE MECHANISM

Lexie log:  I called home at break and she answers the phone, “Hi Momma.”  I asker what she’s up to and she says, “I’m just drinking a bottle of milk.”  As perfect as that.  My little three-year-old angel is a communicator now.  – Linda got her the cutest little purple teddy bear with hand crocheted outfit for her birthday.  We still haven’t gotten her anything yet.  – Her and Thumper are best friends.  – When I got home last night, she was napping. When she woke up she came shuffling into the office rubbing her eyes and sat on my lap and cuddled.  Monday night she was wide awake, she came bouncing into the office and exclaimed, “Look Momma, I’m dancing!” and danced all over the room in what I can only describe as a ‘modern dance’ style.   It was terribly cute, and it also got Thumper all riled up and he danced around too with her.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, chips and dip brought in by co-workers, swimming, and life.

I’m taking my morning break early as I sort out some stuff.  I’m very frustrated at the way Gina handled the missing fee ticket report when Tami left.  I feel like she used it as a tool.  She continually remarked about how Barb said she wanted to get involved and learn how to do it but never followed up.  She used that as an excuse to let it slide and go untouched for so long.  When she did work it, she held the tickets and gave a huge stack to Jan on her last day.  Now if I start working the report, as I’d really like to, I run the risk of duplicating her research since she kept no log and the coders won’t start working what she gave them until tomorrow.  The first thing I did was to make a tracking log to document the reference numbers/patients I sent to be entered and the date I sent them.  It can be sorted by name, doctor, you name it…and when I run the next report, I can verify that I’m not duplicating and they’re not sitting on someone’s desk.  --  Month end has gone smoothly so far, just waiting on the final charge entry.

Word(s) of the day:  PURPLE

Lexie log:  Grammy came over yesterday and they set up a big drawing tablet and did crayon art.  When I got home we pulled out the magic finger-paints that only show up on special paper.  We’re having her big birthday bash this weekend.  Linda brought in the cutest purple bear with a hand crocheted outfit for Lexie.  The people I work with are awesome and all so kind to Lexie.  I wish I could bring her into the office more.  – We really, really, really need to get her some rain boots and a long raincoat.  They had some cute (overpriced I’m sure) pink ones at her swim class lobby, and Lexie went straight to them, but they only went up to size four.  I would really like to go out hiking around in not so great weather and stay dry.  – Daddy taught her to hold up three fingers to show how old she is.  She learned yesterday morning and was tickled to show off her new talent to Grammy and I.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, weekends, kind people, laughter, English toast bread, Mom and Dad, jackets.

7:18am.  It’s not even 60 degrees in here.  The network is down; the UNIX box is not even powered up.  The West side of the building is vibrating with some strange equipment in the basement where some workers who have been here since I don’t know when are trying to fix some ongoing plumbing issue.  I should have known it was going to be odd when I was pulling into the parking lot and had to do a double-take as I saw that the upstairs lights in DeSimone’s area were on and a couple trees (Fichus, I believe) were walking by the window.
7:23am.  Phil (the man behind the walking Fichus) just turned on the boiler, I called Seth and he’s on his way in, and the strange vibrating has stopped.  Hopefully the network will be up within the hour and I can get all my Monday reports done and start with the month end.  Wish me luck…

Word(s) of the day:  BEWILDERED INKLING

Lexie log:  I pretty much went over it in yesterday’s blog, so I’ll just recap by saying how absolutely neat it was to see her swimming around looking under water.  She swims halfway across the pool, and I’m just so proud of her.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, electric space heaters, Amygdala management, and weekends.

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? (yo mamma! NO), Spongebob Squarepants!

Who's yellow and pourous and spongy is hee?????

Short weekend long, or long weekend short? Three hour naps on Sunday afternoons make a weekend fly by. We visited Gramma Betty on Saturday. Daddy and I took Yancey and Thumper for a walk while Lexie visited with Gramma. Gramma sent us home with a huge amount of dates in a gallon sized ziploc. -- Saturday night Lexie and I spent an hour at Saturday Night Splash. We lost her Speedo goggles at one of those times when she wanted to switch goggles, then she found a pair of older, pink goggles that she loved and found out how fun it is to look under water. A major transition! She loves to keep her head underwater and look around. It was pretty amazing! I loved it and so did she. -- Next day at swim, she showed her stuff... She can swim halfway across the pool underwater now. We could tell that Teacher AJ was impressed. Only downside to class was that there is an intern whose voice is so silent that Lexie can't even hear him. We hope he isn't next session permanent teacher. Bergan's parent's showed up at the same time we did and they loved Thumper. He goes with us everywhere, even sometimes Lexie is jealous. Saturday night swims are the mostest bestest!..-- Then we went home, ate Mexican breakfast, lunch, dinner, and took a three hour nap. -- I reserved Chuck E. Cheese for next Sunday at 3:00pm. I hope it's a good birthday.

Word(s) of the evening: PROVIDENCE

This project is taking up my whole day.  Not working on much sleep. When I made my coffee this morning, I pilled an enormous mountain of non-dairy creamer on top and sat and watched it for about two minutes.  It crumbled and melted down into the coffee like some off-white version of a time-lapse video of glacier island caving on all sides.  Psychedelic, dude… – It’s mega busy here at work again today.  If I could avoid the spur of the moment projects that keep cropping up, I might actually make a dent in some efforts at getting things cleaned up.  I teeter once in a while on a state of frustration when I look at how unorganized I imagine things to be.  I want to re-arrange filing, and I fantasize about paperless imaging for storage.  I feel inundated with a mass of documents kept to track changes or info that is rarely, if ever, accessed.  It is odd to me that an administration so computer literate and technologically savvy is still keeping binders and binders of every last little detail.  Wumph!  -- Technological rodentia suicide attempt;  My optical mouse just leaped from her (why a she?, she has no ball anatomy) upstairs pad and hung herself by her tail.  I need a break.

Word(s) of the day:  PARTICLE REVOLUTION

Lexie log:  Lexie’s birthday was nice.  We took about 35 minutes of video, but forgot to take any pictures.  Well, more like I was running the video camera and Frank was doing the cake, candles, helping with the present, so we didn’t have enough hands.  She loved the whole production.  Blew her candles out right away the first time, then wanted to try again and messed around making the flames dance.  She loved her 3D ViewMaster.  She kept trying to get Thumper and Tiki to look at the pictures, as well as Mommy and Daddy.  She ate McDonalds happy meal as a treat for dinner, had way too big a slice of cake, chocolate milk, tortilla chips, a starburst, a couple chocolate covered cashews, and by 1:00am she layered our one and only comforter with a mixture that looked like raspberry vinaigrette with Feta cheese.  Poor baby.  She had tummy cramps and we were up with her off and on the rest of the night.  She had a great time for her birthday.  I can’t wait to go home and cuddle her.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, washing machines and detergent, coffee, weekends, overtime, end to overtime, feeling of accomplishment, equilibrium, art, and stuff.

HAPPPY BIRTHDAY LEXIE!

I called and talked with her on the phone earlier.  I asked her how old she was today and she said, “I’m three!”  So cute.  Tonight when I get home, we will wrap her View-master present, put three candles on her cake and have a mini-birthday celebration.  Then next weekend we will have a bigger party.

I spent most of my lunch on the phone with Frank discussing the fact that his new long johns bottoms are nowhere to be found.  --  It was supposed to snow 3-5 inches today, but that fizzled out.

Word(s) of the day: COBALT

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, sense of humor, keyboard trays, and life.
