Oh that darned dog!  We were all getting in the car yesterday after work.  Frank had Thumpers door open and he jumped in.  I opened Lexie’s door and she was at the end of the driveway looking at the pile of dirt the city workers had piled in the court.  Thumper noticed it too and leapt out of the car to investigate.  He got a wild hair up his wazoo, and after a quick sniff of the dirt pile he trotted of towards the entrance of the court.  This is a big no-no, and he usually sticks to the houses farthest back.  As he headed towards the street, a cat raced by and went in the yard of the corner house.  He tore after it, but was quickly distracted by two teen boys bicycling across the street.  So, hackles three inches in the air, he sprinted after them.  I let out a blood curdling command, “Thumper!  No! Get back here no!”  Which was really only helpful at slowing him down and attracting the boys attention so they were forewarned.  The boys cried out in amazed fear.  I, of course, know that Thumper would never touch them…All bark, no bite.  But they saw 70 pounds of German Shepard roaring at them.  Thumper came back to me most of the way when I called, then thought it was more fun to scare them, so he did a u-turn and went at them again.  Yep, same reaction.  They were still just as terrified for the second round.  Finally, he came back, but decided to go up the street the other direction towards a yard with a dog he visits when Frank takes him for a walk.  Another blood curdling invective from myself, but nothing from Thump.  When I said the heck with it and walked back towards the court and the house, he decided he’d better follow me and raced past me. Then he had a brief encounter with a construction worker who was doing something with the caution tape, construction cones, and pile of earth they dug up.  Awkward encounter, but brief.  I told the guy he wouldn’t bite (yeah, always believe that one, huh), walked past the two of them, opened the car door, and bellowed at Thump to get in the car.  He reluctantly complied, and we we’re on our way.  I hope this doesn’t become too much an issue for him.  At the Safeway parking lot he tried again when I opened the door to get Lexie out.  He bolted over her, and I barely caught him, front paws on the blacktop, by the scruff of the neck and pushed him back in.  I scolded him fiercely as I undid Lexie’s safety belts.  Luckily, this time I was wary of him, so when I opened the door I wasn’t alarmed that he tried to escape.

Word(s) of the day: CIRCUS CLOWN

Lexie log:  Yep, that’s right, we’re going to the circus Saturday.  VIP tickets, reserved section, elephant rides, clowns, and all.  I can hardly wait.  I must get the cameras ready.  – Lexie now has a wall in the kitchen just for her art.  It is the wall we used as a Christmas tree, our Christmas wall.  Well there are still a few leftovers from Christmas, but slowly Lexie’s crayon, paint and sticker art pieces are taking over.  I think it will be splendid when it takes up the whole wall.   Last night she did two sticker pieces, both princess and flower/heart stickers on pink and orange crate paper.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, no headache for the first time in over a month-Thank-you Carrie, the Circus, weekends, audio books, and life.

There's a little black spot on the sun today, Same old thing as yesterday...

Monday, March 27, 2006
Well, another super weekend.  Saturday we went on our weekly trip to Dittler’s.  This was an interesting trip.  As we drove there, Frank pointed out the sky showing impending wetness.  We knew that we would only be there a short time before rain encouraged up back to the car.  But, we were still determined to make a ‘run’ of it.  So, Thumper got in a couple swims, and I ‘oooooh’d and ‘aaahhh’d at the sky and the atmosphere.  The Southwest sky was black and green, good stormy colors.  The Northeast sky was White with a hint of grey, super bright.  This caused the lighting to be eerie and wonderful.  We were running later than usual, so we happened to be there as the tide was going out.  Truly amazing.  The closest I’ve seen to it was in Alaska on our fishing trip.  It was like someone pulled the stopper out of the Columbia and all the water was washing away, but still with a current.  There had been dozens of sailboats a little to our west when we showed up.  Just before the green/black skys came upon us, the sailboats all started moving our direction.  A chilly breeze picked up.  We could see the wall of water coming from the sky about a mile away.  A couple fat, icy droplets of water slapped my forehead.  We put Thumper back on the leash and headed back up the beach.  We had only gotten a couple yards when the skies opened up pouring torrential buckets of rain and ice on us.  Thumper pulled Frank up the wet sandy beach to the car, but Lexie was like a little anchor.  She kept yelling that it was raining too much, but she moved slower than molasses to keep up with me.  So I swung her over my shoulder (she must be about 40 pounds by now) and continued to trudge up the wet sandy slope.  I got almost to the top before I had to put her down.  We were all completely drenched.  It would have been pointless to towel off Thumper, since we were swimming in the sky already, so when Lexie and I finally made it to the car, Frank and Thumper were sitting inside listening to the ice pelt the metal frame.  After we finally got going, Thumper got a good shake in, coating the back seat, and Lexie, with wetness of the dog.  We all laughed.  We tried again yesterday and had a much dryer go of it.  – As soon and my visa card is paid off, I sent the payment today, I’m getting an iPod.  I hope it won’t affect my blogging too much, but I’m going to start walking at lunch.  Either outside or at the gym, but I have to start.  I’m seeing Dr. Johnson Wednesday to talk about my blood pressure.  The closest it has ever been to normal was when I was pregnant, and even then it was high.  Every other doctor I’ve had has said that if it doesn’t go down, they want to put me on medication, and then I move or switch doctors.  So far, every time I’ve seen Johnson, he’s brushed it aside since I’m always coming in for other issues.  This time I’m making the appointment all about this issue.  I know that with diet and exercise, it will help, but I’m no longer willing to be taking this constant risk in the mean time.  It’s actually causing me fear and stress to worry about it so much.  So, my blog time may decrease to only a couple days a week, but it’s worth it.

Word(s) of the day: IMPETULANCE

Lexie log:  Boy, we really need to start our Saturday night swims again.  She is getting excellent at her listening and following instructions…except when it comes to her kicking and not using her hands.  Shortly after she pushes off, she starting doing some vertical inchworm/dolphin maneuver while she dog paddles with her hands.  It’s ridiculous looking, and during playtime it would be hysterical.  So, since we stopped going Saturday nights, she adds a little more playtime in on Sunday.  At least she had fun.  – Saturday, after our hail storm, we went to Gramma Betty’s.  Gramma climbed into the front seat and made Daddy sit in back with a very wet dog.  Lexie continuously spoke about how it was really, really raining too much.  She is very independently picking her own clothes out now, when I walked in her room before we left, she had already picked out what she was going to wear and putting it on.  Of course, she picked a summer time tank top, Capri pants, and sandals.  I gave in, figuring we could always layer once we got there.  So…it was warm enough for her outfit and a sweat coat…until the hailstorm.  Now she sate in the back seat drenched.  The first thing we did at Fred Meyers was head for the 60% discount clearance rack and I picked out blue sweat pants and a purple shirt.  Gramma went and bought them, and while she was in line, I found a pair of purple fuzzy slippers that Lex fell in love with.  I took them to another line and bought them.  Super deal, they were in the clearance area and had been marked down from nine something, to seven something, but when the clerk rang them up, they were only $1.99.  Hehe.  We went into the restroom and changed her.  She was a doll, and the other patrons in the bathroom all talked with her as they waited to wash up.  – Yesterday, we went to the river again after swim.  This time I brought along a bucket and some other things for her to play with, and she enjoyed herself more than any other time.  I created a channel for water to come up the beach and showed her how to pack sand into a cup and start building a sand castle.  She threw a fit when it was time to go.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, family, beaches, sand, rivers, weekends, atmosphere, and life.

Friday, March 24, 2006
Whew, It’s Friday!  I’m leaving in 45 minutes for Frank’s dental appointment.  Then, we’ll see if I can get an eye appointment for a new prescription.  Then to PetSmart to see if we can get the picture of Thumper’s graduation.  Since I’ll only be here a half day, and half my day yesterday was eaten up by having to do the mail, I’m really busy.  So, short blog day and small blog week.  It’s been fairly busy at work and staring at the screen while I type has really been giving me a headache.

Word(s) of the day:  ANGEL

Lexie log:  I just got off the phone with Lexie and Daddy.  Lexie slept in today and was just waking up when I called.  She was so cute, Daddy kept asking her if she was going to wake up and she kept saying, “Nope” in her cute sleepy voice.  I put her on speaker and made the whole office listen.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, Gramma Betty, pets, God moments, Felix, Jan, Val, Cherri, Carrie, Lana, Tracy, Michelle, cards, purple, soft, smiles, warm fuzzies, butterflies, and life.

Oh, the wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'...

Tuesday, March 21, 2006
Time for a new pair of glasses.  I’m starting to get daily headaches towards the afternoon from my right eye.  When I was at the ophthalmologist a  couple weeks ago, she did an vision test with my glasses on, and I was amazed at how poorly my right eye was.  So, little by little our tax refund is being divvied up.  By the time it arrives, it will already be spent.  – I left my swipe card to clock in and out of work in my pants pocket…at home.  So, today I get to fill out an exception sheet, which I prefer.  It means I can be lazy and not have to go down and clock out and back in for lunch.  I just write the times down.

Word(s) of the day:  BONAFIDE WALNUT

Lexie log:  Another weekend of swimming.  Thumper swam Saturday, Lexie on Sunday.  Thumper is a bonafied swimming dawg now.  We went further up the beach than usual, and happened to find a spot that had a drop off real close to the waters edge.  This surprised Thumper on his first attempt at fetching, but he must have been pleasantly surprised.  He discovered that he loves to swim.  He went out pretty far too.  This summer is going to be nice.  – Lexie had too many swim instructors Sunday.  There were only Lexie and Donovan in class with Teacher AJ, and then two ‘interns’, Lilya and William, were there too.  Too many cooks in the kitchen.  All the attention made Donovan and Lexie act out silly and play.  Neither of them would put their face in the water when they swam or climb up and sit on the wall.  Donovan’s mother actually was very upset with Lilya’s instruction technique.  She spent quite a bit of time discussing it with Teacher AJ and then came over and discussed with me towards the end of class.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, coffee, water, swimming, weekends, pets, cups, clocks, carbon, calcium, corks, candles, clips, carnations, cauliflower, corn, calculators, color, and life.

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling, From glen to glen, and down the mountain side...

Friday, March 17, 2006
Top of the Mornin’ to ya!  No, I am not wearing green.  I don’t think I’ve worn green on St. Patrick’s Day ever.  I don’t really know why, I just don’t think of it.  Val, the office Leprechaun, pinched me on the arm.

Strange focus group.  I don’t even really know how to describe it.  I was a little irritated with a couple of the participants.  The ‘leader’ looked just enough like the Peter Funt that I kept suspecting, “Smile, your on Candid Camera!”  There were four ‘super birders’ there who were almost like binocular snobs.  One particular guy had a $4,800 pair of Zeiss binoculars.  I mentioned how many of my family are birders and have been on extensive bird watching excursions.  I explained that I enjoyed bird watching, but I use my binoculars for hiking, camping, animal watching, etc.  This must have escaped him because towards the end of the meeting, the ‘leader’ decided to question my devotion by asking if I married into the birding family since I kept saying I wasn’t familiar with the top of the line binoculars and how much they would cost.  I looked him square in the eye and told him that I didn’t have the cash to throw around at hardware and I was used to mine.  Another lady barely spoke, and new even less than me about binoculars, which was fine.  She said she used them to watch the squirrels in her yard.  She has squirrels that she has named, they come into the house, and come when called.  Again, this is just fine.  But Teresa…Just couldn’t stop talking, about bizarre stuff.  Made me uncomfortable.  Martin (aka Mr. Funt) asked all to close are eyes and he would say a word, we were to describe to him what we envisioned.  He gave the example that he was an avid scuba diver, and if he closed his eyes and someone said ocean, he would picture himself and his buddy 120 feet below the surface looking at some wolf eel around a shipwreck.  So, of course the word he says is binoculars (duh).  He asked me first, so I say that I see my family and I ¾ of the way up Saddle Mountain on a beautiful spring day, we climb to the top and sit enjoying a snack and the view.  So…then he asks Teresa and she rambles with much hand gesturing about time slowing down and everything moving slower.  Two hours of this crap. That and I felt bad about leaving my housebound family stranded while I went off to do something by myself.  I am going to seriously re-consider the next offer for a focus group.

Word(s) of the day:  MANIACAL LEPRECHAUN

Lexie log:  She is still a decent little angel when she is fully rested.  When I left for the binocular focus group, she was beat tired, cranky, demanding, crying.  While I was gone she took a nap.  When I came home, she was a sweet, happy, considerate, angel again.  Oh, when I left, she had such a fit that as I was closing the front door she came screaming toward me, yelling, “Don’t go Momma!”  She was barefoot and I hit her foot with the corner of the door.  Ouch!  She started wailing as I scooped her up and carried her to the bathroom.  I ran cold water on her foot while I assessed the damage.  It scraped her, but no excessive bleeding, I carted her to the kitchen, sat her on the edge of the table, dried her foot, kissed it, applied Neosporin and a Sponge Bob band-aid.  I gave her a huge hug and was much more careful this time when I left.  She was still upset at me leaving.  She sure was as pleasant as could be when I came home.  I definitely prefer her and Daddy’s company to a roomful of strange strangers.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, Betty, Thumper, Tiki, Miadda, Chikita, Turkey Swoop, Felix, Blackberry, Ray, Bob, Shasta, Kiwi, Strawberry, Meridian, weekends, strange little experiences like binocular focus groups, the color green, the color red, clovers, laughter, joy, and life.

Mr. Jones strikes up a conversation with this black-haired flamenco dancer

Happy birthday to Dad, Happy birthday to Dad, Happy birthday dear Daaaaaaad, Happy birthday to you!  I just ate a bell pepper sweet as a birthday cake.  Hope you have a terrific next year full of good health, happiness, and prosperity.  I LOVE YOU, DAD!

I wear slippers at work.

AY caramba!  This is my daily food intake at work; boiled egg, kiwi, grapes, two small tomatoes, two soy shakes, a bell pepper with fat free ranch, ¼ cup left over macaroni, and a tiny slice left over meatloaf.  Then, six of the gals up here chip in and they are all having the greasiest food on earth, Poor Richards.  Every thing there is deep-fried, potatoes, mushrooms.  It’s so hard to eat healthy around these people, but today I am successful.

On Monday Mom bought Thumper a huge, I mean HUGE dog bone.  Looks like it came from a dinosaur.  He’s still working on it, but he’s got in four pieces now.

Tonight is my binocular focus group.  Should be interesting.

Word(s) of the day:  WIKIPEDIA

Lexie log:  She has started picking out her own clothes.  It’s very cute to see her choices in color and style.  – Yesterday I noticed that she initiated a conversation with me about what she did during the day without prompting from Daddy.  She showed me her hands and told me that her fingernails were clipped.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, Betty, slippers, pictures, cows,

Twinkle twinkle little bat, how I wonder what your at, up above the world you fly, like a tea tray in the sky...

Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Well, what a relief.  I got two major things out of my inbox.  And, as usual, they weren’t as big a deal to resolve as I had made them up to be in my head.  A true procrastinator trait.  Yesterday, Marylue brought me an accounting error to research.  The bank deposited a different amount for our February 3rd deposit than what we have on record.  I spent a while re-calculating check copies and finally we found the deposit slip had two different amounts on it.  Per Marylue, the culprit was lashed with an Al Dente noodle.  Then, I have been storing up questions for Cerner support for over a week and putting off making the call.  I finally did it, and it only took about 10 minutes.  Now, except for our 10:00 meeting, my day should be a breeze.

Word(s) of the day:  BELL PEPPER

Lexie log:  Something happened between Saturday and Sunday to her angel attitude.  Every day for the last three days, she’s had a spell of rotten three year old syndrome.  You hear about the terrible two, but two was a breeze.  I hope this attitude thing turns around quickly.  It hit us like a ton of bricks; we were side swiped with no warning, so now we are scrambling for effective parenting techniques to reprimand the tantrums and rebellious opposition to any and everything.  We’re not just talking a few “MINE!”  She wants whatever she can’t have, doesn’t want anything she can or is supposed to have, and has a tantrum about it either way.  We were at the optical store last night to fix my glasses and I tried on a couple frames anticipating a new pair of glasses soon.  Lexie really liked the light purple pair I tried on first and had a fit when I tried on any other pair of glasses.  She got all squirrelly, and the assistant helping me offered for her to play with a couple Barbie dolls the store keeps around for children.  I realized immediately that Lexie would assume they were hers to take home and told the assistant that if she (meaning Lexie) could find them, she could play with them.  Mistake.  The assistant thought I meant that I wanted her to find them and give them to Lexie to play with, so she did.  Oh my, the fit she threw when we had to give them back.  It’s the same story with most every meal or movie.  Really, this is only happening for about 10% of her day, the rest of the time she is angel Lexie, but it’s still a bummer.  She seems to be having a good day today.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, Bell Peppers, Gramma Betty, weekends, laughter and life.

Put me in coach, I'm ready to play, today...

Monday, March 13, 2006
Another super weekend.  Saturday we took Thumper to Dittler’s again.  He raced around the beach and had a blast.  Right when we got there, an odd thing happened.   A woman came up to me with a clipboard asking if I used binoculars.  Of course, I do, so I told her so.  She apologized for the strange circumstances, but she worked for a marketing firm called MDC, and she had been interviewing candidates for a focus group all day on the phone with no luck, so she decided she would try looking where the people are.  The beach.  She was looking for women who use binoculars either for boating or birding and who bought a pair in the last two years.  She was incredibly pleased that I fit into one of these categories and invited me to participate Thursday night.  I just love giving my opinion, so this will be a  $50.00 cooperation fee that will be paid to me.  What a combo.

Word(s) of the day:  SOY NUT

Lexie log:  We found a pair of expensive looking brand new sun glasses that had washed up on the beach.  Lexie looks super cool in them, but they’re still a little too big.  – After the beach, we went to GI Joes to get a birthday present for her cousin Marissa.  While we were picking up a baseball mit for her, Lexie tried one on, for kicks, and it turns out they do make them that small, pink and black, and she loved it.  So she got one too.  She really likes it.  Since Saturday, we played with it (and her new baseball) about three or four times.  She likes it and is getting better at it, but for some odd reason, she will only play catch for two or three catches, then she is done and puts it away.  – Sunday she did excellent in swim.  Teacher AJ had a substitute, I think the owner, and she was a darned good teacher.  It gave me confidence that she will enjoy future classes no matter who her teacher is.  Speaking of which…I hadn’t realized until we got there that sign up already began, so we signed her up for the next session.  This time her class will start an hour and a half later.  Hopefully this will give her a chance to take a nap and be rested enough not to be so distracted.  She loves the class so.  Oh my!  I just had a realization this very moment.  If she moves to Water Safety I, which she is signed up for, Daddy and I won’t be able to sit on the pool deck with her.  We’ll have to sit in the observation room.  That kind of saddens me, but at least she will still enjoy it.  – After swim, we went home for a couple hours, then off to Marissa’s party.  Lexie was so excited about going to Chuck E. Cheese, that she wouldn’t sleep for anything.  She could barely keep her eyes open.  Oh, and this was fun…We had to drive by the Beaverton Chuck E. Cheese on the way to the one on Powell, and she saw the sign.  She had a fit when we didn’t pull in, and it took about ten minutes to convince her that we were going to a different one.  When we got there, she was like the poster child for Chuck E. Cheese.  She bounced from the car to the door, dancing, chanting, “Chuck E Cheese”, and ear to ear smiles.  She sat and ate half a piece of pizza, and then we made the mistake of letting her go out and play while we waited for the show.  She went straight for the tubular maze and it took almost fifteen minutes to find her and get her down the slide.  Then we literally had to drag her kicking and screaming back to the table.  Of course, she loved dancing and singing up  front for the show.  Then she ate caked and then more play.  We were all exhausted by the end of three hours, but still, we had to carry her kicking and screaming to leave.  She was asleep before we got back on the highway and slept until eight pm.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, weekends, family, friends, fun, laughter, water, music, and life.

Another brick in the wall.

Thursday, March 9, 2006
From the second story conference room windows this morning, I was taken for a moment with the beautiful sight of large fluffy snowflakes elegantly falling on the sloped black-shingled roof.  The effect was mesmerizing as the snowflakes simply disappeared on contact, providing the effect that they had merely passed through the solid roof to the other side.  Peaceful.

Word(s) of the day:  BALLOCK

Lexie log:  Oh what pure joy to play with her in the snow!  Last night, after bedtime of course, it started snowing, and sticking to the ground.  We all bundled up and went out to enjoy.  We had a snowball fight.  Lexie ran back and forth from the top of the driveway to where I was standing in the court.  She would make a snowball (keep in mind they are three year old size) up by the car and come racing down to me, with peels of laughter, and hurl her tiny snowball at me.  Then she would race back up for another one, all the time non-stop laughter.  Mean while, Daddy and I were tossing mini snowballs at her and each other.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, Betty, family, snow, weekends, coffee, potatoes, fun, happiness, laughter, and life.

The night Chicago died...

Wednesday, March 08, 2006
Super busy day again.  As I’m working away, I’m thinking of things to blog about, but I’m working right through my lunch and breaks.  It seems like we are basically trying to clean house here in the business office.  We’re evaluating workflows and duties, and I’m incredibly busy doing bale out and research.

Word(s) of the day:  STEVEDORE

Lexie log:  Carrie was just telling me about something her son has that we have to get for Lexie.  The Crayola floating bath crayon set.  She’s in the tub almost every night.

Sky rockets in flight...

Monday, March 06, 2006
Wow, what a wonderful weekend.  Saturday, the river, Sunday, Mom and Dads.  – Month end closed Friday night (from home), so that’s almost done.  Tying up loose ends of reports and what not.

Word(s) of the day:  MINUTIA

Lexie Log:  We continued or Saturday routine (for the last half month) of taking Thumper to the river, then going to Gramma Betty’s and out to dinner at the Mexican place on Interstate.  We got a bit of a late start, and didn’t make it home in time to go to swim, but Lexie was exhausted and conked out by the time we got home anyway.  – Yesterday she did the best ever in swim.  I overheard Teacher AJ tell Lilya that she was penciled in for Water Safety I.  I wonder if she will have a new teacher, and how she will handle that.  She did a perfect starfish, listened really well, swam really well, got toys from the bottom of  the pool twice, and had a blast.  – After swim we went out to Yamhill to visit Grammy and Grandpa.  Lexie keeps changing the way she says his name, and for most of yesterday she called him Gramma-Pa.  She just loved being there, Thumper thought he was in heaven tromping around the forest, and Daddy and I really enjoyed ourselves.  It was so pleasant that we stayed longer than I expected, and even when we did leave, I wished we could stay longer.  But, to home we returned and had a pleasant evening.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, weekends, rivers, water, swimming, laughter, and life.

I tell ya', life aint easy for a boy named Sue...

Friday, March 3, 2006
– Whooopeee!  Friday and payday! Not much could be finer.  The only thing that would make today better is if my friend and co-worker would just have a chance to get caught up.  She came into the job three months ago with a crap load of backlog, and now administration is breathing down the coders necks to get month end close done today.  I would hate to work under that pressure.
– Myrtie, or vacuum, died yesterday.  Frank is very upset about this.  That vacuum was the best we ever had.  It was super powerful.  Not powerful enough for the superball it tried to ingest yesterday.  Frank says that it made a horrible noise, parts flew off, and the beater brush fell off.  When I got home we tried to re-assemble it, and it looked good.  Then Frank tried her out, and it made a horrible noise, smelt absolutely horrendous, and the belt broke.  The jury is still out on what we are going to do to replace her.
  • Things discussed at work while doing semi-mindless data entry:  While listening to the song “Manic Monday”, we discuss different scenarios where the subject of the song would have made it to work on time.  Transporter, lived across the street from work, lived above work, worked from home, got up on time.

  • Ok, now I’m stressed.  It’s 3:42pm and I’m still at work.  Waiting for the charges to be entered so I can stay here even longer and wrap up.  Even then, I’ll have to log in from home tomorrow to do the month end and backups.

Word(s) of the day:  ISOFLAVIN

Lexie log:  When I talked to her on the phone earlier, she was looking at a magazine, asking for the lollipop she saw a picture of.  Her and Daddy went for a walk with Thumper today.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, weekends, payday, and life.

Many laughs today getting my computer to say butthole and diarrhea

Word(s) of the day:  LAUGHTER

Lexie log:  Lexie slept through Thumper’s graduation last night.  She fell asleep right before we got there, and Daddy stayed in the car with her.  We should get some pictures of Thumper with his cap in a couple weeks.  Lexie woke up in the car on the way home, and as soon as she realized we were on the way back she started crying and wanted to go see Thumper’s class.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, friends, naps, weekends, pets, smiles, colors, and life.

Bye February.  Hello March.  Looking forward to longer, warmer days, and spring.  – Thumper graduates today.  And…we’re going to sign up for the next class.  I’m very pleased.  – Thumper was a mischievous little horse today.  Lexie still likes to sit in her high chair sometimes to eat.  Frank went out back while she was in it to pick up Thumper Doo, and Thumper locked him out of the house.  Super.  He was able to find his way in, but that’s scary.  – I just got finished looking at my Aunt’s (Sue’s) blog.  I haven’t been there in a while and had some catching up to do.  I am so impressed with the quilt work she does.  Growing up, I never imagined that quilts could be such amazing art.  I still have the quilt uncle Fred made years ago too.  – At work right now I’m running some super long report that’s keeping all my other stuff from running.  At this rate, I’ll have to log in from home to make sure it doesn’t hang and prevent the backup.  Bugging me.

Word(s) of the day:  QUILT

Lexie log:  Lexie is almost completely over her cold.  – Her sentences are wonderful.  She answers the phone now when I call home.  I love to listen to her tell me what is going on in her day.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, Betty, pets, class, colors, and life.

Ram...Bunk...Shush

Tuesday, February 28, 2006
Another busy day of work.  Projects, batches, post, etc.  This is the last day of the month, so start your engines…  Karina, HR department, brought in Mardi Gras necklaces for us all to were.  Festive.  No parade, however.  – Oh, my!  So, as usual we still get the occasional room of rest misfortune.  Today, someone chose to leave his ‘gift’.  Poor Carrie went to go in there and came out horrified.  She couldn’t even flush for fear of clogging.  She talked Jan into calling Central, but wait…Val who has muchas dama cohonnes, walks into the conference room where she knows the perpetrator to be.  She exclaims to the administrator that someone left a load, and said offender, who is standing right next to him, fesses up and goes to fix the problem.  Poor new guy.  He lost the battle before he even started here.  His predecessor spilled the beans that he has an unusual hobby.  He likes something called “fursuiting”.  Now go research that and tell me this guy doesn’t have some giggles from the gals in the business office.  The person who started this gossip chain even backed it up by providing a website with pictures of our furrier.  I have yet to see it, but most likely will.  So, that that hairball has been flushed…

Word(s) of the day: MARDI GRAS

Lexie log:  I love to call home and have her tell me what she’s up to.  Just a minute ago, she told me that she had eggs for breakfast, made a house, had a baby bear, and watched Bob the Builder.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, chicken, tomatoes, paperclips, my friends, laughter, energy, and life.

Cross in the sky, star of the sea, Under the moonlight, there she can safely go, Round the Cape Horn to Valparaiso

Monday, February 27, 2006
Another wonderful weekend passed.  I’m getting pretty caught up at work, starting to enter charge batches for pediatrics and posting payments when I hit a slow period.  It’s almost month end again, so the pace will pick up a bit in a couple days.  – Thumper had his six month birthday yesterday.  We celebrated Saturday by taking him to the river.  He fetched and ran, and had a blast.  Yesterday Frank cleaned up the back yard for him, another present since the weather has been pretty bad.

Word(s) of the day:  PAPEL

Lexie log:  She is on the down side of her cold now.  I hated not going swimming Saturday night, but she needed the rest.  She was pissed that we didn’t go.  On the flip side, I she really outdid herself in swim Sunday.  She listened and waited and just did a super job.  Saturday night we played on the couch for the two hours we would normally spend swimming.  – Saturday she played in the sand at the river, and ran up and down the water line with Thumper.  After, we went to Gramma Betty’s and went to Michoacan restaurant.  Tonight when Grammy comes over, we’ll watch the video of the beach.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, Gramma Betty, laughter, and life.

And the Wichita Lineman is still on the line.

Thursday, February 23, 2006
Whew!  Busy week.  – Thumper graduates from beginning obedience training next Wednesday.  We’ve yet to decide if we will move on to intermediate.  I think it would be great fun, but not as necessary as the first one.  Basically, we could get by without it, but it would be great experience. He is the only one in his class that can do a high-five, so last night, we worked on high-ten, while the other dogs worked on high five.

Word(s) of the day:  PURPLE

Lexie log:  Poor little angel has another cold.  Like clockwork, two and a half days after a ‘hands-on’ experience in a multi-child environment (OMSI), she gets another little bug.  She is such a trooper though.  She started sneezing Tuesday sometime, I heard her on the phone.  The she told me she didn’t feel well, and she was sick.  I asked her if she had a cold, and she said she did.  I’m not sure Daddy was convinced yet though.  She knows her body pretty well already.  By the time we were at dog school, she was sneezing with a runny nose, and by the middle of the night she was coughing, congested, and low-grade fever.  She takes her medicine like a big girl now, because she can associate that her symptoms go away, or at least subside, shortly after taking it.  – She hasn’t got the concept of the phone being audio only.  She keeps trying to get me to see or smell things when I call home.  The other day, she dropped the phone and then proceeded to ask, “Are you OK Mommy?”  So cute.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, Gramma Betty, weekends, camping, power naps, cuddling, my cats and dog, and happiness.

MyPoints!

Tuesday, February 21, 2006
Have I ever mentioned how much I enjoy using MYPOINTS?? I already have over 7,000 points which is over $50.00 in gift certificates and I really don’t have to do much of anything for it.  I’ve also got some great deals from the sponsored ads.

Another really busy day.  Posting charge batches for pediatrics to help prepare for month end.  It’s almost the end of the day, and I have time for a quick little blog before home.

Word(s) of the day:  QUASI

Lexie log:  Grammy and Lexie played yesterday.  She had another day of no nap until after 6:00pm.  It snowed a teeny tiny bit in the afternoon.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, tea, color, weekends, gratitude, and life.

We all live in a yellow submarine...

Monday, February 20, 2006
Not much to say about work today. Same old same old. Pluggin’ along, still enjoying my new duties more than the old.

Word(s) of the day:  ELOQUENT THWACK

Lexie log:  Saturday we went to Gramma Betty’s house for a couple hours.  We brought Thumper, as usual, but this time he got to go in the house.  Lexie loved watching Thumper and Pete play.  Thumper is 62 pounds of puppy and Pete is a Dachshund who thinks he’s a Husky.  Then Lexie’s second cousins Marissa and Gavin stopped by.  After playing for a short time at Gramma’s they went back to Aunt Patty’s (their grandma who lives one house away) and Lexie went with them.  She had a blast over there.  That evening and the next day she kept asking to go over to Aunt Patty cake’s. No one knows where she came up with the name, but it’s cute.  I know her Grammy sings patty cake to her, so she must have come up with the new name.  – Saturday night we swam for almost two hours.  She had a great time going to the bottom of the pool to retrieve toys.  She spots the toy on the bottom, I tell her ‘ready go’, and she hold her breath as I help her reach the bottom, then I let go and let her swim back up to the surface.  She cried and had a tantrum when it was time to leave.  The lifeguard actually had to convince her that it was time to go.  – Sunday she did super in swim.  She listened and followed instructions.  The only issue she kept having is that she refused to climb up and sit on the edge of the pool.  The other two kids, Donovan and Gabe, did the same thing.  She was being really stubborn from being sleepy.  She went to bed later than usual Saturday night, and had been up since 8:30am with no nap.  – After swim, we met Grammy and Grandpa at OMSI.  What a blast.  While we waited for the OMNIMax theater show about Dolphins, we went up the super sized escalator and followed Lexie around the Children’s science play area.  She put pieces of plastic fruit over a cone of air to levitate them.  She lodges a plastic apple in the opening, and Mommy had to maneuver it out.  She splashed around in the water play area.  Then she spent about 15-20 minutes barefoot in the sand play area.  She even poured a bucket of sand over her head.  We sat in the top ten rows at the OMNIMax Theater and watched a fabulous short film about dolphins.  It was Lexie’s first theater experience, and even though she was really tired, she enjoyed it immensely.  We will have to go back for the animation one.  Mommy was a goober and left the tickets in the jacket that Grandpa took back out to the car, so we had to wait to get in line while he went to get them.  It put us back in line quite a ways, so next time I’ll be more prepared.  While we were in line, Lexie was fascinated by the motion simulator ride.  Unfortunately, they require that riders be at least four years old.  She freaked when she couldn’t ride it.  So, I know what we’ll be doing this December.  After the show, we went to the café and ate lunch.  Lexie has decided that she no long likes pizza, reason unknown.  So she nibbled on cheese, muffin, and chocolate milk.  Then we went on the tour of the submarine the USS Blueback.  That was pretty neat.  She looked out the periscope, sat in the navigators chair, played with huge gold locks on torpedo lockers, and spun some dial/wheel that claimed to be responsible for some equipment, but obviously not since it produced no effect.  She spun it around the whole time the tour guide talked about the particular area we were in, all the while chatting about how she was turning the corner.  At one point, we had to wait in the crews quarters while everyone caught up with the tour and she had a captive audience.  She stood in the center of this barely lit area (red submarine lighting) and stomping her feet and asking how we got in here. At the beginning of the tour she scampered into the captains room, under the ‘do not enter’ sign.  The look on her face when the sounded the ‘dive’ alarm was priceless.  After the tour, we watched this three dimensional led ball, mechanical maze.  She cried when we walked out the door, but cheered up as we walked through the parking lot.  She took of her jacket, and because of the static winter air, her hair stood on end.  I rubbed her head with her jacket to enhance the effect, and almost fell with laughter.  She saw her shadow reflection and laughed too.  Passers buy chuckled at her.  It was about the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time.  She cried a little more about having to leave and part from Grammy and Grandpa, but was asleep in the car before we even hit the main road.  She slept the whole way home, and then some.  Daddy got her a beautiful apache tear necklace that she loved wearing.  Grammy got her a stone decorated to look like a ladybug.    – All in all, a terrific weekend.  Lexie took at least another 30 pictures.   She is now paying attention to the subject matter, seriously picking and choosing what she shoots, even trying again when she doesn’t like the result.  I really need to get some CD’s to start storing these.  Our computer is already pushing what I’d like it to store.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, weekends, water, energy, flowers, colors, happiness, and laughter.

It's the eye of the tiger, it's the cream of the fight...

Thursday, February 16, 2006
It’s hard to stay focused today for some reason.  Oh, I know, the moment I get caught up, my mind wanders.  So, no real long blog for today.  Not because I’m too busy, but because I’m not busy enough and I need work to do.  – Thumper did the best ever at class last night.  Now he knows ‘high-five’.

Word(s) of the day:  PIXILATED

Lexie log:  We’re putting ear drops in her ears twice a day.  She produces an excessive amount of ear wax, a fact that Dr. Miller points out each time we visit.  After the last visit, however, Lexie actually agreed to putting medicine in her ear without a fit.  The first night, about a week ago, She rested with her head in my lap for several minutes while the medicine did it’s work in one ear.  It was cute, I told her it would ‘tickle’ her ear, and she laughed.  The next attempt, two hours later, at bed time to do the other ear was not a success.  She decided she didn’t like the way it felt, and most definitely didn’t want her head on it’s side for that long.  So, yesterday we tried the cotton trick and she’s handling it quite well.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, weekends, crockpot, stickers, stones, movies, and life.

The ongoing fascination with water towers. Posted by Picasa

Rock you like a hurricane...

Wednesday, February 15, 2006
Brrrrr!  It’s cold out there.  The kiddy pool in the backyard is covered in ice.  The weather report says that with the wind chill factor, that temperature will be in the single digits the rest of this week.  – I’m getting quite caught up.  It’s between Month End and I finally cleaned up the missing fee ticket report. I did a little organizing today, also helping Cherri post some payments (got to keep a hand in these things, I suppose), and just got a new project from the Admin.

Word(s) of the day:  ALASKA

Lexie log:  Another of Lexie’s latest fascinations are water towers.  About three weeks ago, I was driving with her in the car, and she spotted the water tower about a half-mile from our house.  She now points them out anywhere she spots them.  Of course, when she pronounces it, most of the time it comes out ‘water power’.  She is fixated on climbing to the top of one.  So, today I looked them up, since Daddy and I are now curious exactly what they are for, and this is what I found:  Water tower  I love stuff like that.  I hope these links don’t expire too soon.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, protein, Mom and Dad, the Internet, water, coupons, slippers, weekends, and happiness.

Happy Valentines Day!  EPIC Imaging had a coffee cart here at the office this morning to promote their new cardiology services.  They brought bunches of Valentine heart balloons.  The kind Lexie has been begging for at the grocery stores for the past week.  After the coffee piece was over, a bunch of us went in and got balloons, so I get to bring one home to Frank and Lexie.  This just thrills me.  And I got a Snicker flavored coffee at the recommendation of the EPIC rep. On top of my regular coffee I had already made, I am really caffeinated at this moment.

Interesting news of the day; Gas prices fall, American’s have four golds and two silvers so far in the Olympics, Michelle Kwan retires from the Olympics after four years and no gold.

Word(s) of the day:   MYLAR

Lexie log:  I got the sweetest message from Lexie (with a little help from Daddy) on my phone this morning.  It was before 8:30am, so my phone wasn’t turned on yet when they called.  The message is her sweet little voice wishing me a Happy Valentine’s Day, saying ‘hi’ and telling me in a whisper that she loves me.  It was so sweet it gave me butterflies in my tummy.  I made Carrie, Linda, and Cherri listen to it.  I have about 8-10 other messages from her and Daddy stored on my voicemail, pretty soon it may get full.  I wish there was an easy, inexpensive way to save them for all time.  – Lexie’s latest fixations are with Bob the Builder, and Sandy the Squirrel.  She has a little plastic Sandy figurine that she carries around.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, weekends, our cats, our dog, shelter, food, water, and happiness.

See the sun come up on Sunday morning...

Monday, February 13, 2006
What a glorious weekend!  And, I’m getting quite caught up and up to speed on the workload here.  The weather yesterday was beautiful, especially for February.  Yesterday, Frank and I got a little done out in back.  I swept off the deck, mostly, and he did the bird feeders and Thumper poop patrol.  I wish it were easier to persuade him not to debark every branch on the carpeted deck.  It’s just too time consuming to sweep that outdoor carpet.

Interesting news to note:  Vice President Dick Cheney shot a fellow hunter in the face while quail hunting Saturday.  New York is buried under two feet of snow after the worst snow storm in it’s recorded history.

Word(s) of the day:  OFFICE USE ONLY

Lexie log:  Saturday we took Thumper to Dittler’s.  He ran up and down the beach chasing the waves.  He did chase one stick into the water and did a full on swim, but it was a bit cold and he thought better of going in that far again.  Our thoughts have been confirmed however, he will very likely be a water dog.  It was very windy, but we were dressed warm, and it air dried Thumper nicely.  We watched people kite surfing on the river and on the sand.  Then we went to Gramma Betty’s for a while.  Patty Ann brought over Gavin and Marissa, so Lexie got to play with them for a while.  – Yesterday at swim it was the halfway mark where the teachers evaluate and make initial recommendations for next session. Teacher AJ came right out and told us that he has her penciled in for water safety one.  He doesn’t want her in basic water safety, as he says that is for children with a fear of the water, and she obviously doesn’t have that.  The thing is that she didn’t listen very well in class yesterday, and he said unless she improves her listening and following instructions, she will be put back in transitional.  He knows she can do everything required, but she many times does not wait for, “Ready! Go!”, and yesterday, she was obstinate and wouldn’t pull herself out of the water.  Daddy and I know that this is 90% nap related.  The more rested she is for class, the better she listens and follows along.  But…we haven’t figured a way to force sleep on her.  Maybe if we leave a half hour early and drive around?  I don’t know.  Either way, the bottom line is she loves swim class, and she will learn to swim safely in her own time.  – Hopefully next Sunday, we will go with Grammy and Grandpa to the IMAX short animation at OMSI. This weekend Grandpa was getting over his cold and to exhausted to go.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, humor, coffee, swimming, walking, warmer weather, and life.

I get a little bit closer, to feelin' fine...

Friday, February 10, 2006
This has indeed been an interesting morning (and week).  When I came in this morning, the scheduled long database backup had failed, and it must be complete before month end can run.  I had to quickly run it before too many people started coming in.  Then the print spooler on the Windows server failed. Restart. Now, I’m on the phone with Cerner.  All PRISM sessions are hanging and we can’t even get the root login at the console to come to life.  Luckily it looks like the month end is still going unaffected.  – 40 minutes later, I’m still here on the phone.  The problem has been solved, but not diagnosed, so here I am on the phone with Mr. Sherman while he looks at user logs and tries to figure out what could have caused this.  In the mean time, my break has come and gone and I haven’t been able to call Frank and Lexie.  So, here I am putting him on hold and going to another line to call and say hi and let them know I would call them later.  – The wind here has been amazing the last 24 hours.  – I was pretty impressed with Thumper last night.  He has a daily treat of getting to lick the kitty bowls clean when they are done, he is always very enthusiastic and excited about this.  I had a bowl in my hand, and I told him to sit, then stay.  I walked away and went to put the bowl down and he started coming over.  I kept trying this until I was able to get him to sit and stay the whole while I walked away put the bowl down, made him wait to the count of ten, came back over to him, gave him lots of praise and affection, and released him, “all done!” so he could go lick the bowl.  – Wednesday morning, I left at 4:00 am to go to the gym, and the windshield was iced over.  I sat in the car, blasted on the defroster, and watched the fractals turn into droplets.  I just thought is was so interesting and almost poetic.  I almost wanted to write some haiku for it.  It definitely stuck out in my mind.  But…I haven’t blogged in a couple days, so I thought I’d mention it.

Word(s) of the day:  FICUS

Lexie log:  We were in the car yesterday and she spotted a distant airplane contrail, and exclaimed that she saw an airplane.  Daddy and I looked all around and couldn’t see it, then she points up past the passenger seat and says, ‘To the right.”  It stunned both of us, and she was correct where she was pointing.  – I took the day off from work Wednesday to deal with family stuff.  We went over to Gramma Betty’s for a while which was nice since Lexie missed seeing her the last couple weekends.  Then we went to Daddy’s dr appointment and Lexie and I took Thumper for a walk around Beaverton while we waited.  Daddy had taken them on a walk earlier that day also, we are so grateful for sunny skies.  – Then Grammy came over and baby-sat Lexie while Daddy and I took Thumper to his Wednesday night class.  He is backsliding on his obedience, and the trainer, Quinn, thinks it is due to adolescence. – Lexie watched Daddy ‘fly from the air’ yesterday.  While I was at work, Daddy was putting his birthday present from Aunt Chris, an awesome birdhouse, up on the shed.  He was using the ‘funny’ ladder, and it gave out on him and he came crashing to the ground with the birdhouse in one hand, the drill in the other.  He’s got a sore shin and ankle, but seems to be ok.  Lexie was concerned for him and took his hands and checked him out and said his hands were hot.  I didn’t witness it first hand, but the way Daddy describes it, it must have been so sweet.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, Gramma Betty, wind, no rain for two days, weekends, and life.

Work is work is work is work.  I’m in a funk today.  Seems that I’m having problems effectively communicating outside of work, and it’s got me blue today.  I’m taking myself out of the drivers seat, as I am not going to drive this bus.  Looking for my trolley strap handle.  Lot’s of metaphors involving transportation.  Interesting.  So now this has become stream of consciousness.  I really want an iPod.  I want to listen to Wayne Dryer in the morning when I do treadmill.  I’m really looking forward to getting one.  I’ll call it my mental vacation player.

Word(s) of the day:  DOABLE BASTION

Lexie log:  She has the most amazing memory.  Late last Summer Lexie and I walked up to a tiny little park about a mile from our house.  It was basically just a plot between two houses with bark dust, two swings, a tire swing, a double platform bastion, and two metal climbing jungle gym apparatus.  The place was super run down/falling apart.  The bolt mechanism that was holding the tire swing on was falling apart and the whole thing looked like a hazard.  Lexie loved it anyway.  So, today, Grammy, Lexie, Daddy and Thumper walked over to the park, and it was gone!  Grammy told me that Lexie remembered the park and the swings.  What a sharp mind.  – Routine: every time we come in the front door, the first thing Lexie does is take off her shoes and socks.  She likes to be barefoot.  Even if we tell her we’re turning right around and leaving again, she still walks in the house, sits down in the entry hallway area, takes off her shoes and socks, puts her socks in her shoes, then carries them to her room to put them down.  She’s so cute.  – She swam so well Saturday night and we had such a blast together.  I don’t know what I’d do without our Saturday swims.  Sunday she swam really well, but she was having a problem listening an following instructions.  The gal, Lilya, who has been working the front desk every class and every Saturday night, who knows us by name, is training with Teacher AJ to be an instructor.  I’m glad.   I think she’ll be a great instructor.

Today I’m grateful for Lexie, Mom and Dad, Frank, future iPod, coffee, swim with Lexie, laughter, hope, and positive energy.

Get on your feet, Get up and make it happen...

Friday, February 03, 2006
Here is an excerpt of daily reading:

“This is a punch biopsy of an inflammatory process.  Part of the epidermis has been sheered during processing but there are spongiotic vesicles within a very thin epidermis.  There is a superficial perivascular and interstitial inflammatory infiltrate composed of lymphocytes, histiocytes, and numerous eosinophils.”

From a dermatologist’s pathology chart note.

Interesting link on a unique Scotland Lock

Today has been focused on updating the data warehouse schema from version 2.001 to 2.004 (Something’s been missing for a over a year and this has been left out), and then reloading all the tables.  Meetings and stuff.

Word(s) of the day:  ESTRELLA POCO

Lexie log:  Ohhh, my little star.  She’s such a sweetie.  I just got off the phone with her and Daddy.  Right after Daddy answered the phone, she busted in and said she wanted to say, “hi”.  She said hi to me, and explained that she has hearts and moons on her slippers and sheep on her shirt, and that she put her shirt on backwards.  She has come to a cute roadblock with her pronunciation of anything plural.  Everything gets an “es” at the end, even when it doesn’t end in s.  So, naturally, horses sounds just fine, but sheep comes out as ‘sheepses’. Stars are ‘starses’, hearts are ‘heartses’… you get the picture.  It’s cute.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, weekends, folders, staples, socks, space, water, air, and life.

Ah, push it -- push it real good.

Thursday, February 02, 2006
Whoa, what a morning.  Let’s see…First I get a call from a specialist office looking for additional phone numbers for a patient of Dr. Whoshallremainnamless, because results showed that she needed to be admitted immediately to the hospital.  After I verified security info, I gave her the only phone number that she hadn’t read to me.  The caller said that if that phone number did not get the patient, that she would call the police to go to her residence.  This partially alarmed me, so after I noted the account, I went to find the dr’s nurse for an FYI.  Unfortunately, she didn’t come in for another ten minutes and the nurse manager asked if she could help.  I explained the situation, she told me that the dr was in his office and she would run it by him.  He happened to walk by and she stopped him and looked at me to explain.  I re-told, and all I got was a very rude, impatient response that was utterly offensive.  It really set me back.  I discussed the situation with a few co-workers and my super ear, HR and she confirmed that this attitude is not uncommon with this doctor, a personality trait (flaw…) perhaps.  It didn’t curb my desire to keep a line of communication open with the clinical staff to help ensure total patient care, but it did strengthen my resolve to deal only with the nurses (except for a few docs I know are humanitarian.  Next, I got a call from a very unhappy patient for being charged for well care visit when her husband was billed differently.  This conversation (not a particularly rare one in this field) was lengthy and unpleasant and ended up with follow up research.  When all was said and done and I got back a hold of her, she agreed to pay the bill under protest and began a complaint about the unpleasantness of a particular exam.  (Insert break until lunch, will type more) – Thumper was so much improved in last night’s class.  He is doing very well with sit, lay down, and improving with loose leash walking.  He did well with ‘leave it’ and ‘come here’.  Basically, this class was one of the first that was pleasant and insightful.  Unfortunately it also showed that Lexie’s level of tiredness and hyperactivity obviously does affect the enjoyment and benefit of the class.  Now I wish we could retain Mom as her babysitter for each class.  – Question?  Should a person with known allergies to molds, and who went via ambulance to the ER in anaphylactic shock over penicillin eat Roquefort cheese?

Word(s) of the day:  VENIPUNCTURE

Lexie log:  Poor angel has another cold.  She’s had a mild fever the last two nights that finally elevated sometime in the middle of the night.  I got the Children’s Liquid Advil out of the cupboard on my way to work, and Daddy gave her some first thing when she woke up.  She sounded nasally to me over the phone and told me that she had medicine to make her better.  Now I want to go home and cuddle her.  – Lexie and Grammy spent a good hour and a half getting to know every inch of PetSmart last night.  Kudos to Grammy, Lexie was going on 10 hours with only a ten-minute nap.  – I just got off the phone with her for my lunchtime call.  She was crying a little and upset.  I knew why, because Daddy had already told me, but I got on the phone with her and here is the dialogue:
Mommy: Hi Lexie, what are you guys up to?
Lexie: I’m just crying like that.
Mommy:  Why are you crying?
Lexie:  Thumper took my cheese.
Mommy:  Well, you don’t have to cry, Lex.  You could just ask Daddy for another piece.
Lexie:  OK.

Then back to Daddy.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, dog training classes, Tupperware, microwaves, weekends, and cuddling.

Lunch blog today.  It has been a busy morning, but unlike yesterday, a productively busy morning that comes with a sense of accomplishment.  I’ve gotten a lot of issues resolved. Software downloaded, projects organized, etc.  In fact, I even went and had an air clearing with the RN you jumped my schnitzel yesterday in her frustration over mandatory data fields.  One less resentment to carry around.  She was apologetic and friendly and everything is fine.  I’m very glad because I really am fond or our pediatric nursing staff.  They are some of the best people I’ve met.  I’m truly lucky to have such great co-workers.  I’m also glad I work closer to the peds department then IM.  I enjoy the exposure to childhood.  – Thumper has been a bit of a turd dog last couple days.  Frank and I don’t think he’s getting enough playtime and activity with the weather situation.  I’m going to make a resolution to try and take him on a daily walk after work.  He gets a lot of racing around in the yard, but not so much now that it’s a swamp, and I know from experience the difficulty in walking in horizontal rain with a five month old puppy and a three year old daughter, so Frank won’t be doing that unassisted.  – Thanks, Carrie, for lunch.  – Why do dogs prefer the kibbles that don’t make it to the bowel, rather than the ones in them?

Here’s a cool link.

Lexie log:  Her three-year exam went well.  She first had a fourth year med student named Stacey.  She asked a lot of questions, of us, and gave Lexie the routine exam. Then Dr. Miller came in and we re-discussed some questions like helping with sleep issues and when to start teaching stranger etiquette.  At first Stacey gave us the impression that we should be teaching Lexie ‘stranger danger’ already, and that concerned me since she is such a kind and outgoing child who loves to make eye contact and communicate.  She is a breath of fresh air in a world wear people walk past each other on the street without so much as making eye contact let alone a smile or kind word.  (This is something I’m doing my best to change on my part.  I try very hard every day when I walk to the car from work, or am at the store, to look strangers in the eye, smile and give a kind hello.)  I was very relieved when Dr. Miller came in and said that she is fine for now, and that we shouldn’t even worry until she is able conceptualize the topic better and has a stronger vocabulary.  For now, we just keep an eye on her in public.  – Grammy is coming over tonight, and she is going with us to Thumper’s class.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, Carrie’s kindness, weekends, swimming, colors, taste, smell, senses, water, lyrics websites, biography websites, imdb.com, and life.

Whistle while your work...

Tuesday, January 31, 2006
I’m stuck on the phone with PRISM support.  I called before 7:30am (I love that they’re open for East Coast customers so I can get all my PRISM issues worked on before anyone shows up for work.) So, I call at 7:20am and here I am still stuck on the phone.  I’m thinking that Steve could have called me back on this, but he’s got me tied up on the phone hear with my screens all looking up stuff.  So…in between him talking (mostly to himself) I’m looking up local news and typing my blog.  – I’m pretty sure I felt a minor earthquake this morning about 6:30am.  I had just arrived in the parking lot and turned off the car for about two minutes when I felt the whole car/ground vibrating or shaking.  There were no buses around and the construction a block away doesn’t start for another hour.  I called Frank and told him, and I haven’t seen any new about it yet.  There was an earthquake centered not even a mile from hear the other night.  – Steve is now explaining to me what changes from our latest upgrade could possibly be causing the errors I’m experiencing.  I’ve been on the phone for almost 45minutes now. – I’m going to think about grocery list now…

Diapers  (Almost don’t need them anymore, but still do)
Laundry detergent (big laundry spree lately with five month old dog and swamp yard)
International Delight French Vanilla Creamer and Crème Brule Creamer (I do French Vanilla, Frank is Crème Brule)
Del Monte canned corn (small cans)  (Lexie and I love it)
Chunky Soup (chicken dumpling)  (Mmm. My favorite to take to lunch)
Diet Cherry Coke (Mmmm…)
Dog Treats (Thumper loves ’em)
Those papers that go on the bottom of the Clorox version of the Swifer wet jet. (Thumper brings the swamp onto the linoleum multiple times a day.  We stopped using the Swifer thing for a while, but now I’m in love with it again.)

8:06 and still on the phone…I’m listening to Steve talking, “Okay, I’m grabbing the first file…I printing from your system since it’s your data dictionary we’re having to live with…(typing, typing, typing, silence silence silence, more keystrokes) I’ll have to do this a different way, I’ll have to go a different direction…I need to dial into your system a different way…I’m going to have to ask you to hold a minute, I’ll be right back.”  Then he sets the phone down, and I’m going to work the missing fee ticket report while a can.  Back later…8:14 and he’s back talking to himself and occasionally me to let me know what he’s doing and ask me a question…”File, print…second one…set up…oh…there…(some oral clicking noise)…(small sigh)…setup (he’s now basically whispering)…OK, let me get this off our printer, hold on…(he puts the phone down on his desk)…Ok, Rachel?”, yeah, “I’ve got the printouts for everything…”  And now he’s going over the relation ships between all the files in my report.  I’m tuning out and I’m going to work on missing fee ticket some more.

Finally, I got of the phone with him about 9:04.  I got an email response back from KGW stating no reports of earthquakes this morning and pointing out a cool website for me to look at real-time (ish) earthquake data in our area.  So, I wonder what I felt?

9:21am, calling Cerner about completely different issue.  This call only takes five minutes, but the issue is not resolved.

Word(s) of the day:  ARCH NEMESIS TREMOR

Lexie log:  She made another blockhouse last night.  Different design, and still neat.  This one included a cylindrical block and a funny shaped Lego on the roof.  She uses a combination of old-fashioned wood blocks and shapes and the peek-a-block blocks and Legos.  I took another picture and will post it later.  – Lexie re-discovered corn last weekend.  I took a couple bites straight from the can and offered her one and she now requests corn frequently.  As long as it isn’t heated up.  She likes it straight from the can (so do I). – Today I get off work at 12:00 for Lexie’s three-year exam.  I’m so excited.  I love doing stuff that is about her.  – Grammy’s biopsy is done, and she sounded fine yesterday afternoon.  Minor procedure, and although she will probably be sore, she’s still coming over to visit Lexie et. all this afternoon.

Today I’m grateful for Frank and Lexie, Mom and Dad, hands free headsets for long phone, leaving work early- for it is Hell here today, and the promise of future laughter and happiness.
